Premium, 100% organic infusions now available in caffeine-free Lemongrass and Ginger

Lemongrass Herbal Infusion from Teatulia

Lemongrass Herbal Infusion from Teatulia

Denver, CO – January 12, 2010 – Teatulia is pleased to introduce two new infusions to their line of organic “teas with a purpose”.  Teatulia, a sustainable, single garden tea company that has dramatically improved the lives of women, men and children in Northern Bangladesh, where their tea is grown, is unveiling their first herbal infusions at the Fancy Food Show in San Francisco, January 17-19, 2010.

Lemongrass and Ginger Herbal Infusions will now complement the full line of Teatulia teas. Pure, organic Lemongrass provides a light, refreshing herbal indulgence. The Ginger Infusion offers a naturally caffeine-free brew of warm and spicy flavors to calm, soothe and settle. Both infusions are whole leaf and available either loose or conveniently packaged in Teatulia’s biodegradable silken pyramid sachets. Given the unsurpassed freshness of Teatulia’s whole leaves, each pyramid can be steeped two to three times for maximum enjoyment and cost-savings. All Teatulia teas are packaged using eco-friendly, compostable materials.

“The large volume of requests we’ve received asking us to add a caffeine-free option to our product line was what inspired us to develop these two new infusions,” said Linda Appel Lipsius, Co-Founder and COO of Teatulia. “We’ve spent the last year creating infusions that mirror the extraordinary quality of our premium line of teas.  Both of our new herbals are delicious, served hot or cold, and enable us to meet the demand for caffeine-free infusions while maintaining our dedication to all natural teas with a pure, clean taste.”

Teatulia teas are widely available at Whole Foods Markets nationwide as well as through select grocery stores and

How would you describe Teatulia Teas?

At Teatulia…

We keep it simple.

We are purists.

We have 7 teas.

All 7 Teatulia Teas are organic whole leaf.

If you like your tea in a bag, you can get those whole leaves in lovely biodegradable silken pyramid teabags.  Or if you relish the loose leaf experience, all of our teas come loose too.

Now, about those 7.

Teatulia Black Linda’s Favorite!

Dry leaves:  Small leaves with golden tips throughout. Faint apricot aroma.

Aroma:  Unbelievably fresh

Color:  Golden with a reddish hue

Flavor:  Bright, full body. Sweet, rich, absolutely refreshing.  Slight nuttiness, slight smokiness. Tongue-coating, incorporating all of your taste buds with no bitterness.  Perfectly balanced.  Retains its identity with the addition of milk and sugar. Perfect any time at all.

Teatulia Green

Dry leaves:  Broken green leaves

Aroma:  Wood and perhaps some green bell pepper. Fresh, clean & grassy like fresh clean hay.

Color:  Green-gold with a pink hue

Flavor:  Medium body with a grassy, fresh, slightly vegetal flavor. Slightly astringent finish with a refreshing cooling quality.  Perfect any time of day for green tea lovers.

Teatulia White

Dry leaves:  Gorgeous half-inch needles with delicate soft white fuzz

Aroma:  Rich and subtle

Color:  Golden

Flavor:  Delicately rich with a hint of peach. Excellent choice for starting off a hot summer day or relaxing in the early evening. Also a perfect choice for those new to tea – the sweet, subtle flavor is a lovely introduction to the world of tea.

Bengal Breakfast

Dry leaves:  Large, mighty leaves that nearly burst out of the silken sachet when steeped

Aroma:  Nutty and buttery

Color:  Light golden brown

Flavor:  Smooth, medium body, with a mellow finish. Highly drinkable with a slight sweetness at the finish. A very familiar tea that can be easily enjoyed in large quantities.

Earl of Bengal

Dry Leaves:  Medium, even leaves enhanced by the fragrance of the finest organic oil of bergamot

Aroma:  Mild citrus

Color:  Golden-red

Flavor:  While inspired by Earl Grey, Earl of Bengal has a delightful lightness and freshness to it. The bergamot citrus hits gently on the center of the palate and seamlessly melds into a satisfying maltiness.  The hot tea makes a lovely comfort drink with or without milk or serve it over ice for a delightful summer beverage.

Tulsi Infusion  Anis’ Favorite!

Dry leaves:  Small leaves interspersed with leaf from the amazing Tulsi plant.

Aroma:  Intensely rich & spicy

Color:  Red

Flavor:  Unlike anything you’ve ever tasted, Tulsi infusion has a rich, full-bodied spiciness and sweetness to it.  Delicious hot or cold. Nice with milk. Excellent with meals – should be enjoyed similar to a Chai.

Neem Nectar Brianne’s Favorite!

Dry leaves:  Medium-sized leaves mixed with bright green broken Neem leaf.

Aroma:  Full nose with a tartness at the finish

Color:  Golden

Flavor:  Totally unique. Bright, full-bodied with a delightful crispness.  Cleansing on the palate. Goes very well with savory food.  Exquisite on ice.

Teatulia Tea – On Ice

Summer is in full effect (It’s almost 90 degrees here in Denver as I write this) and nothing is more refreshing than a nice cold glass of Iced Tea!  There is a common miss-conception out there that you have to have a particular type of tea for it to be brewed as iced tea.  Well don’t let them fool you!  Why would you sacrifice the quality of the tea you drink just to put it on ice?  True, some teas may taste differently when they are chilled, and you should definitely experiment with brewing times and ingredient quantities until you find your perfect recipe.  However, we went ahead and took the guess work out of it for ya.

As you know Teatulia Teas are some of the most exquisite, fresh organic teas available and they are terrific as an iced tea as well!  (especially the Earl of Bengal and Tulsi Infusion, in our opinion)  Go ahead and follow these simple instructions to make the perfect glass of         Teatulia Iced Tea:

This recipe pertains to steeping 4 tea bags or 8 grams of tea per 1 Gallon of water

Teatulia Black Tea: Steep for 5 minutes

Teatulia Green Tea: Steep off-boil for 6-7 minutes

Teatulia White Tea: Steep off-boil for 8-11 minutes

Earl of Bengal Tea: Steep for 6 minutes

Bengal Breakfast Tea: Steep for 6 minutes

Neem Nectar Tea: Steep for 5 minutes

Tulsi Infusion Tea: Steep for 5 minutes

Great Writeup on Elephant Journal

elephantjournal.com product reviews: Teatulia: the truly “green” tea.

teatulia

If you’re eco, if you’re green, if you think caring about our earth isn’t a joking matter—and yet you like to enjoy life, take care of your health and feel good about your buying decisions, then tea is for you. Disclaimer: after two years drinking only green tea, never coffee, I’m back and hooked on the hard caffeine stuff), though I still drink tea at home and very occasionally out on the town.

And if you’re gonna drink tea, loose tea or Teatulia is best. Why? Loose tea, or Teatulia individually bagged tea, leaves behind a minimal “footprint”—normal bagged tea is generally contained in individual, non-compostable tea bags with stapled tags. Teatulia, on the other hand, is in tagless, compostable, bags, in a compostable, unbleached (and attractive) container (that will make your kitchen look cool), and most importantly of course the tea itself is “beyond” organic:

More Organic than Organic

Teatulia’s mission is to sustain the land and the people while producing top-quality organic tea.

Established on virgin soil and grown following Masanobu Fukuoka’s “natural farming” method, Teatulia is the only organic tea garden in Bangladesh to be USDA certified organic and the only garden we know of that has approached tea cultivation this way.

At Teatulia we:

• Do virtually no tilling, weeding, etc.

• Develop the soil with cover crops and mulch

• Utilize water bodies & herbal shade trees to restore the eco-balance to the area

• Use only natural pest & weed controls

• Nourish the land with bio-fertilizers and bio-gas plants

• Protect wildlife

They’re also beyond “fair-trade.”

Fresher than Fresh.  Single-Garden Direct
Teatulia organic tea comes directly to you from our organic tea garden. There is no middle man, no long-term warehouse storage and no waiting around to be put into just the right blend as defined by a third-party blender. What does this mean for you? You get to enjoy some of the freshest certified organic tea in the world, and you know exactly where it came from.

Social Responsibility

Teatulia is no ordinary tea garden. Started in 2000 to give back to our community, we sought an enterprise that would give the most people a living wage while protecting/strengthening our environment. Not content with the social programs already in place, our Teatulia Cooperative has established revolutionary education, health and cattle-lending programs for the people working in the garden and surrounding areas. All sales of Teatulia Organic Teas contribute to this mission, helping to better the lives of Bangladeshi men, women & children while rebuilding the local ecosystem.

“From its inception, Teatulia has been eager to engage with the community in a mutually beneficial manner. This is why Teatulia started a Cooperative that is open both to its workers, and to neighbors in surrounding villages. Teatulia’s Cooperative began with an innovative method focused on dairy. Co-op members receive a milking cow, for which they pay back not in cash, but with milk and cow dung.  Members pay only one liter of milk per day, keeping the rest for their children and the calves. They pay 10 to 20 kgs of cow dungs per day, keeping a measure for their own use. This easy “barter” form of payback takes off the pressure of cash payments, making the co-op a practical alternative even to the micro-credit operations for which Bangladesh is now famous. Most members manage to pay off their cow within two to three years.  Best of all, they keep any calves that the cow bears, doubling or trebling their cattle wealth!

After a nascent experimental period, Teatulia has stepped up its Co-op efforts in the last two years, and members now exceed one thousand in number. Teatulia expects this number to cross quadruple within the next two to three years, if not sooner.

Teatulia is now also bringing other areas of work, like growing tea, within the ambit of the Co-op. In places like Satmera, Co-op members have come together to start a one-room school built from bamboo donated by the community. When I go the garden, visiting that school and hearing the children sing, or watch them play on the sea-saw or the swing – also made of bamboo – by the little river where they are located is one of the greatest pleasures.” - Dr. Kazi Anis Ahmed, CEO

Love it. Named Best of Denver, from which Teatulia hails, their award-winning black, Neem, Vasaka Laka and Tulsi are probably their strongest suits. Bangladesh, where their tea hails from, isn’t known for the best-ever green and white tea, but I sampled it and can give it a ready two thumbs up.
